The following text contains information regarding DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF
PERN that could not
be included in the printed manual.
INSTALLATION ISSUES
If after installing DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN, the game is having
difficulty detecting your
3D card please verify you've done the following:
1. Installed the latest version of DirectX 8.0 from the DRAGONRIDERS -
CHRONICLES OF PERN Installation disc.
2. Install the latest video drivers for your video card. These can usually
be obtained from the video card manufacturer's website.
If after doing these two steps you are still having problems we recommend
you upgrade your operating System to Windows98.
If you are having difficulty setting up DirectX 8.0 after installing
DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN please do the following.
1. Insert the installation disc in to your CD-ROM drive.
2. Either select "Install DirectX 8" or go to your CD-ROM drive from
Windows Explorer and double click "starter.exe". Then you will be able to
select "Install DirectX 8". Additionally, you may point your browser to
Microsoft's DirectX download web site at:
www.microsoft.com/directx/homeuser/downloads/default.asp
GRAPHICS ISSUES
While every effort has been made to ensure DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN
works with the largest possible number of graphics cards, problems may occur
with particular (and mainly older) cards and cards that have not been tested.
DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN utilises a number of advanced graphics effects
(such as character skinning and shadows). Certain graphics cards may not be
capable of correctly displaying these effects and may display the effect as
corruption. If you do have any trouble with your graphics display then you can
alter the driver used by your card in the options menu of the game. Any driver
that is not supported by your graphics card will be greyed out.
If you experience any graphical problems, please make sure that you have
DirectX 8 and the latest graphics drivers for your graphics card installed. The
latest drivers for your graphics card should be available from the manufacturer
via their web site.

CHRONICLES OF PERN with no recorded problems. This list may not include all the
graphics cards / chipsets that work with DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN.

"working" chipset may function incorrectly when used with DRAGONRIDERS -
CHRONICLES OF PERN. If this is the case, you should ensure that the latest
drivers intended for specific use with your card are installed. If DRAGONRIDERS
- CHRONICLES OF PERN still does not function correctly, you may be able to
obtain reference drivers for you chipset from the chipset manufacturer. These
drivers may work instead.

card. Many video issues will be resolved if you install your video card's latest

SPEED ISSUES
Owing to the graphical intensity of DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN you can
alter the graphical performance of the game in the video options menu. There
are three basic settings.
High detail - Low performance (Good for high speed machines)
Medium Detail - Medium performance (Average setting)
Low Detail - High performance (Good for slower machines)
GENERAL SPEED ISSUES
DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN is a large and complex game and will work
better on more powerful computers. There are a number of ways to speed up
performance on your computer.
Correct Setup
Make sure that your PC is correctly setup and functioning properly. Make sure
all drivers for all hardware are installed and functioning. If your drives
support DMA access make sure this is activated. Make sure that you have plenty
of
disk space and that the hard disk is defragmented.
Background Applications
Make sure that you have as few programs as possible running at the same time as
DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN. Running other programs can seriously affect
the performance
of DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN.
RAM
The more RAM you have in your computer, the better. The game can be played
perfectly reasonably on a 64 Megabyte computer but installing more RAM will
will improve the performance of DRAGONRIDERS - CHRONICLES OF PERN. If you have
128 Megabytes
of RAM in your computer, installing more memory should have a negligible effect
on
performance.
Graphics Card
Installing a modern, Direct 3D compatible graphics card should result in
improved
performance. All the cards on the compatible list will work well, but more
modern
cards should be faster.
Processor
Installing a faster processor should increase the performance of DRAGONRIDERS -
CHRONICLES OF PERN. Owners of standard Pentium II processors should notice a
large
speed increase if upgrading to a faster, Pentium III class processor.
CD-ROM
Faster CD-ROM drives will enable graphics and sound on the CD's to be loaded
more
quickly. If your CD-ROM drive supports DMA, make sure this is enabled.
