We have tried to simplify the installation and the playing of 
this game as much as possible.  However, because of the enormous 
variety of PCs, sound cards, graphics cards, software and related 
configurations, there can be cases where the game will not initially 
work on your system.  This file is designed to help you make any 
necessary adjustments to your configuration to get the game working 
on your system.

You will find included the following sections:

Section 1:  System Configuration

	Minimum System Specification:

	MS-DOS VERSION 5.0 or higher
	486 DX2 66 Mhz processor
	8 MB Ram
	Double Speed CD Rom drive
	12 MB of hard disk space
	Vesa 1.2 compliant video card

	
	Recommended System Specification

	Pentium 120 Mhz processor

Section 2:  Memory Problems whilst running the game under DOS

Jonah Lomu Rugby needs 8 MB of Ram to function correctly.  The 
DOS 4GW protected mode should take care of all memory management for 
you, but it is possible that if you have large drivers loaded in you 
AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS you may not have enough free memory to run 
the game.  Should you experience difficulties in getting the game to 
load, please follow the instructions below, or refer to your DOS 
manual for more details on the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files.

1. Ensure that you are in your root directory.  i.e. C:\

2. Type: COPY CONFIG.SYS CONFIG.OLD (enter)

3. Type: COPY AUTOEXEC.BAT AUTOEXEC.OLD (enter)

4. Type: EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and remove any commands which use up a lot 
of memory, but not those required by your sound card or your CD-
Rom.  Normally the lines to erase are SMARTDRV.EXE, EMM.386, QEMM 
and all those using the word CACHE.

5. Type: EDIT CONFIG.SYS and remove any commands which use up a lot 
of memory, but not those required by your sound card or your CD-
Rom.

6. Reboot your computer.

7. Type: MEM to see how much memory you have freed up on your 
computer.

8. Launch the game by typing LOMU: If you still encounter problems, 
edit the system files to free more memory and then try to launch 
the game again.

After you have finished playing Jonah Lomu Rugby, you will want 
to restore your old system configuration so that other applications 
can continue to function correctly.  To do this, follow the following 
instructions:

1. COPY CONFIG.SYS GAMECONF.SYS
2. COPY AUTOEXEC.BAT GAMEAUTO.BAT
3. COPY CONFIG.OLD CONFIG.SYS
4. COPY AUTOEXEC.OLD AUTOEXEC.BAT

In future, when you want to play Jonah Lomu Rugby, follow the 
following instructions to restore the game system configuration:

1. COPY GAMECONF.SYS CONFIG.SYS
2. COPY GAMEAUTO.BAT AUTOEXEC.BAT

Reboot, play, and then when you want to restore your original 
configuration just type:

1. COPY CONFIG.OLD CONFIG.SYS
2. COPY AUTOEXEC.OLD AUTOEXEC.BAT

Newer versions of DOS have a command called MENUITEM, which 
allow you to construct a menu system for your different 
configurations and thus avoid having to go through the above process 
each time you wish to play Jonah Lomu Rugby.  Look in the section 
entitled 'MENUITEM' in your DOS manual for instructions on how to do 
this.
If you do not wish to alter the configuration of your system files, 
you can copy them to a blank floppy disk and then make any amendments 
to the files on the floppy disk.  When you reboot your computer it 
will use the configuration that is present on the floppy disk, as 
opposed to the one on your hard disk.  To restore the old settings, 
remove the floppy disk from the drive and reboot the system.  To 
create this system disk follow the following directions


1. Type: FORMAT A:\ /S (enter)

2. Type: COPY C:\CONFIG.SYS A:\CONFIG.SYS

3. Type: COPY C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT

4. Type: EDIT A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT and remove any commands which use up a 
lot of memory, but not those required by your sound card or your 
CD-Rom.  Normally the lines to erase are SMARTDRV.EXE, EMM.386, 
QEMM and all those using the word CACHE.

5. Type: EDIT CONFIG.SYS and remove any commands which use up a lot 
of memory, but not those required by your sound card or your CD-
Rom.

6. Reboot the system with the disk in the drive, and then launch the 
game as normal.


Section 3:  Sound Problems

The install programme of Jonah Lomu Rugby should automatically 
detect which sound card you have installed and all the relevant 
settings.  In the unlikely event that it does not detect your sound 
card correctly, run the SETSOUND  utility that comes with the game 
and select the card manually.  Then install the game and select USE 
SETSOUND SETTINGS from the list of available sound cards.  The audio 
should now work correctly.

1. If the game crashes when you try and launch it, there is a strong 
possibility that one of your peripherals is conflicting with your 
sound card.  Make sure that none of your peripherals shares the 
same IRQ setting as any of the others: each peripheral must have 
its own independent setting.

2. If the game works, but there is no sound, there is a strong 
possibility that your sound card is not 100% Sound Blaster 
compatible, even thought it may be advertised as Sound Blaster 
compatible.
Otherwise, it is possible that the card is not correctly set up or 
installed for use in DOS.  Refer to the manual supplied with your 
sound card and ensure that it is properly set up and installed.


Section 4:  Graphics Problems

If you experience any problems with the games graphics when it 
is in HI-RES mode, it is probably due to your a problem with your 
video card drivers.
To solve this problem, obtain and run UNIVBE.  You can find 
this programme on the web site of SCITECH at www.scitech.com

Should the game run slowly in HI-RES mode, it is likely that 
your system is not powerful enough to support the HI-RES mode.  If 
this is the case, run the game in LO-RES instead.


Section 5:  Joystick Problems

If you are using the Gravis Grip device, ensure that it 
properly set up and working before attempting to use it in the game.  
Use the software provided with the Grip to check its settings and 
configuration.
Should you encounter further problems, consult the Gravis 
website (www.gravis.com), or Codemasters technical support.





Section 6:  Uninstalling the DOS version of the game

1. In DOS, ensure that you are in the root directory.

2. Type: DELTREE C:\codemast\rugby

3. If you installed the game anywhere apart from the default 
directory, type the same command followed by the path of the game.


If you installed the game through Windows 95, you will need to 
delete the Jonah Lomu Rugby folder by locating it on your hard disk 
using Windows Explorer, or by right clicking on the folder and 
selecting delete from the list of options.
