	4. Drivers

You are strongly recommended to install the latest drivers for your graphic card.

Here are the driver versions for the most common cards on which Largo Winch runs correctly, along with the addresses of sites from which they can be obtained.

--------------------------------------

----- NVIDIA
All cards based on NVIDIA chips - from TNT on (TNT, TNT2, GeForce, GeForce 2, GeForce 3, GeForce4) - operate with NVIDIA drivers versions 28.32 plus, or with drivers from other manufacturers based on these.

	5. Specific Problems

If you encounter graphic problems with Kyro II type cards, please modify the card's settings. To do this, click with the right mouse button on your desktop. Select: Properties.
Select the tab: Parameters
Click on the button titled: Advanced
Select the tab: DirectX
Verify that the following options are checked:
 Enable External Depth/Stencil buffer
	Then:
		Enable Depth/Stencil buffer loading
		Enable Depth/Stencil buffer storing

It seems that SB_Extigy and Audiotrak Maya 7.1 sound cards do not work with LargoWinch and prevent the game from launching.

The manual and the game's online help refer to the "Next Page" key, symbolised by an arrow pointing down vertically above three horizontal lines. The design of this key may vary from keyboard to keyboard. However, it will always function as the "Next Page" key.

If you have removed your Largo Winch CD from the CD drive, a message will appear in a window asking you to insert it again. This window may not always be in focus (i.e. it may be inactive) and the mouse may not appear when you move over the window.
Nevertheless, move the mouse over this window and click to make it active.
When you have inserted the Largo Winch CD-Rom, press the "Enter" key on the keyboard. If you wish to cancel and quit the game, press the "Tab" key to select the "Cancel" button and then press the "Enter" key.

******************************************************************************************
	6. Configuration

When starting the game for the first time, the configuration utility is automatically launched. Press on the "Play" button to play immediately.

You can also check or modify the settings used when launching the game.

The first page (the first tab) presents the current configuration, selected by default to play Largo Winch.
You can modify the settings using the tabs described below.
Each setting is explained in detail.
Once the modifications have been carried out, you can cancel them by clicking on the Cancel button, in which case the initial configuration is retained.
You can also record the new choices and launch the game with these new settings by clicking on "Play with the new settings'.
If the settings selected are incompatible, you will receive the message: Modify these settings or cancel the changes made.

	-----------	6.1 "Display" tab
This tab is used to change the game's display settings.

a) Graphics Adapter enables you to choose the graphic card (in the case of a two-screen configuration).
Display Mode allows you to change the resolution used. The greater the resolution, the better the quality, but the game's animations may be jerky in movement.

b) The "Character Shadows" option offers 3 choices:
- "Detailed" (default option): displays accurate shadows for the game characters; this option is recommended for the most powerful computers.
- "Simple": the characters' shadows are simple circles on the ground.
- "None": no character shadows.

c) The "Use texture compression if available" box, if checked, enables texture compression on cards that support this. Recent 3D cards are often able to stock textures in compressed form, thereby using less space for game textures and improving the performance of the game.
This compression entails a loss in the quality of textures, which is often very slight.
It is up to you to judge the quality-loss/performance-gain ratio.
If this box is checked, but the computer is incapable of using texture compression, the option has no effect.

d) The 3 buttons on the "Texture Filtering" insert are used to choose the type of texture filtering desired.
From top to bottom, they go from the least sophisticated (bilinear) to the most sophisticated (anisotropic).
Naturally, the more sophisticated the technique, the more attractive the rendering, but performance may be affected.
If the 3D card selected cannot apply one of these techniques, the corresponding button is deactivated.

Please note:
- If the list of available resolutions is empty, restart the computer and launch the configuration utility again.
- When the selected card drivers are too old, or have not been developed specifically for DirectX 8.1, the configuration utility will display a warning: using these drivers may cause graphic bugs or even freeze the program.
If this is the case, you are strongly recommended to obtain the latest drivers for the card from the manfacturer and to install them.

	-----------	6.2 "Sound" Tab
This is used to change the game's sound settings.

Only the "No Sound" option is available. This can be used to deactivate the game sound.

	-----------	6.3 "Controls" Tab
This is used to choose the input peripheral used by the game.

The pull-down list entitled "Input device" provides all the input peripherals available for the computer (steering wheels, joysticks, joypads) except the mouse and the keyboard. The selected peripheral will be the one used for the game.

Please note that the keyboard can always be used in the course of the game - especially, therefore, for computers without game control sticks.
