Thank you for your purchase of Mad Dog, the classic laser-disc arcade light gun shooting game.

THE OBJECT
That lowdown, dirty, sidewinder Mad Dog McCree, and his band of cutthroats, have ridden into town.
They have kidnapped the Mayor and his daughter, and imprisoned the sheriff in his own jail. These
hombres are mean and vicious. What this town needs is a gunslinger to spray a little lead in harm’s way.

Using your mouse or light gun to aim and fire, you’ll have to make your way through town and rescue the
sheriff, who has been locked in jail, and then make your way to Mad Dog’s hideout to free the Mayor and
his daughter. But only the best shooters will meet Mad Dog McCree in the final showdown - just be sure
your Colt .44 six-shooter is loaded!

DIFFICULTY
To start the game, simply place the Mad Dog McCree disc in your CD-rom drive. The introduction video
will play which may be skipped by either clicking the left mouse button, or firing your light gun. Once the
difficulty selection screen appears, you may select one of the choices by using your mouse’s left button, or a
light gun to shoot your choice.

CONTROLS
Use your mouse to move the cursor and the left button to fire, or point your light gun at the screen and pull
the trigger. Please note that when using a light gun the cursor appears where you shoot, and remains there
until you shoot again.

When you have used all your bullets, the cursor will change to “Reload”. To reload you will have to shoot
off-screen with a light gun or press the right mouse button. By default when playing using a mouse the
cursor will move to the bottom of the screen when you reload your bullets. This can be disabled by the
“Move Mouse on Reload” menu selection, or pressing “R” on the keyboard.

LIGHT GUNS
With Mad Dog McCree it is possible to use a “light gun” instead of a mouse to play the game. Mad Dog
McCree supports two types of light guns: The Act-Labs Gameport Light Gun (which is the older model),
and the Act-Labs USB Light Gun. We recommend the USB model for accuracy and compatibility with
newer operating systems. When using the Gameport model, you will need to use the “Calibration” menu
option to set up the gun before playing. To Calibrate, shoot the targets a few times and then press ‘A’ to
apply the settings. You will not need to use this with the new USB light gun.

PAUSING THE GAME
You can pause and resume the game by choosing the “Pause” option from the drop down menu, or pressing
the “P” key on your keyboard.

MUTE
You can mute the audio and restore the audio by choosing the “Mute” option from the drop down menu, or
pressing the “M” key on your keyboard.

BULLET DISPLAY
You can display or remove the remaining bullets by choosing the “Bullets” option from the drop down
menu, or pressing the “B” key on your keyboard. You can also toggle the bullet background transparency
by choosing the “Transparent Bullet Display” option from the drop down menu, or pressing the “T” key on
your keyboard. This option may be preferable on some systems that don’t correctly draw the moving video
background behind the bullets.

SCREEN SIZE
Select “Full Screen” option from the drop down menu, or pressing the “F” key on your keyboard to play at
full screen size. Once at full screen, press “Esc” to change back to windows display. You can also set
“Normal Size Window” or “Double Size Window” by selecting the appropriate drop down menu or
pressing “1” or “2” respectively.

STOPPING THE GAME
To stop the current game select “stop game” option from the drop down menu, or to start a new game select
“new game” from the drop down menu. Also to exit the program either select “Exit” from the drop down
menu, or click the “X” close button in the top right area of the Mad Dog McCree game window.

PLAYING THE GAME
When playing Mad Dog McCree remember that you must move your gun-sight very quickly and shoot at
your adversaries. You can do this by using your mouse to move the cursor and left mouse button to fire, or
by pointing your light gun at the screen and firing. If you have shot in the correct place, the game will
continue, otherwise you will die.

When the game begins, you will meet the Prospector and will almost immediately have to save him from
two of Mad Dog’s men. Move the gun sight quickly to the right so that it is over top of the first shooter and
then fire (or shoot with your light gun). If you are successful with the first shooter, then be prepared to
defend the prospector from a second man. The Prospector will be thankful and give you some information
to start you on your mission.

If the Prospector continually gets shot, you are either not positioning your sight in the correct location or
you are not firing soon enough. Try again but position the sight in a different location. If you find that you
are continually dying at a certain point in the game then you know that you must make a move just before
this point. Take note of where the shooter is on the screen when you die and next time through, try
positioning the sight and firing at that position on the screen. Remember not to shoot the innocent
bystanders!

You are given three lives and once you have used them all, you will be given a chance of continuing the
game but you must first survive a showdown.

If you do not see your bullets, or your cursor on the screen, then you cannot shoot at that time. When you
need to be able to shoot again, your bullets, and cursor will reappear on the screen.

All of the scenes from the original game are included in this CD version.

HINTS
The following may help you if you find you are getting stuck at certain areas of the game. We suggest you
don’t read any further in this section until you have played the game and only then if you find you are
having trouble getting through a certain area of the game.

At the start of the Corral scene, there is a shooter that you can’t see at the window. As soon as you’ve
successfully defeated the first two shooters, move quickly to the window and fire.

Take a close look at the map to Mad Dog’s hideout, as it will be a guide as to which way to go when at the
blank signposts.

When at Mad Dog’s hideout, you will need to shoot out the smokestack to force all of Mad Dog’s men out
of the building.
