(A) INSTALL/RUNNING THE GAME

To run the game, go to the start button of the windows task bar, then select programs, Opening Weekend, and click the Bear Season item. You can also double click on the Bear Season shortcut in the program folder (the default location for the folder to install is C:\program files\manmachine\bear season). Either selection will bring up the main title screen. Select "Play" to play the game. NOTE: do not double click on the "Acknex.exe" shortcut.

(B) PLAYING THE GAME

After the initial loading screen, you will see the main title screen. There are five options available:

	Hunt
	Choose Weapon
	Choose Region
	Score
	Quit

You can jump right into the action by clicking "Hunt". You are prompted to enter a name for your hunter--you may choose not to enter a hunter name, but you will not get to keep your trophies. You will begin in the Arctic with only a cal .45 handgun. Good luck!

Click the "Choose Region" button, and select the locale in which you wish to hunt (Arctic; Russia; Alberta, Canada; or Oregon, USA). Click "Back" to return.

Click on the "Choose Weapon" button and select your hunting weapon (cal .45 handgun, 9mm rifle, 30-30, shotgun, 049 side-by-side, crossbow, compound bow, or longbow). Click "Back" to return.

Click on the "Hunt" button. If you have selected Russia, Canada or the US, the game will prompt you to go on a traditional hunt, or to accept a mission. The missions are as follows: Russia--neutralize rabid bears; Canada--tranquilize bears for relocation; USA--rescue a trapped/injured hiker (there is no mission in the Arctic). Clicking on either "mission" or "traditional" will run the game. If this is the first time you have run the game, it will ask you to set up a hunter (enter name). On subsequent loads, you can click the "Score" button and add/select hunters on that screen.

(D) UPDATES:

	(1) The "hit the sack" option on the camp screen will take you to the "select mission or traditional" screen. You may not return to camp from this screen (clicking "Back" will take you to the main title screen). Make sure to check your score, select location or select weapon first, then select "hit the sack".
	(2) Do not crouch while running. This may force the hunter to descend through the geometry. Hitting the "Esc" key will return you to the main menu.
	(3) You may see a white screen during load up of the game. This is part of the loading process, and may take a moment.
	(4) Using the Power Run mode may cause the exiting of the game to take a little longer than usual.
	(5) If you have SoundBlaster 16, and are not getting any game sound, make sure you have the latest drivers. The SB16 drivers from early-mid 1998 do not play the Bear Season sound files.
	(6) Bear Season draws collision lines vertically from overhanging rock. If you are attempting to move under an overhang, you will not be able to move any deeper than the outermost edge of the outcropping above.
	(7) Pressing the "PrintScrn" button will return you to the main menu. If you wish to capture a screen shot, press the F6 key. The screen shot will be placed in the bear season directory.
	(8) Soundblaster live sound problems. If you're encountering sound problems please follow these steps.
		a. Click Start/Settings/Control panel.
		b. Once at the control panel, double click "Multimedia"
		c. Under playback where "SB Live! Wave Out" is selected, click Advanced
		    Properties.
		d. Click the "Performance" tab.
		e. Move the "Hardware acceleration" slider to NONE.
		f. Click ok.
		g. You're done.
