(A) INSTALL/RUNNING THE GAME
To run the game, go to the start button of the windows task bar, then select programs, Opening Weekend, and click the Deer Season item. You can also double click on the Deer Season shortcut in the program folder (the default location for the folder to install is C:\program files\manmachine\deer season). Either selection will bring up the main title screen. Select "Play" to play the game. NOTE: do not double click on the "Acknex.exe" shortcut.

(B) PLAYING THE GAME
After the initial loading screen, you will see the main title screen. There are five options available:
Hunt
Choose Weapon
Choose Region
Score
Quit
You can jump right into the action by clicking "Hunt". You are prompted to enter a name for your hunter--you may choose not to enter a hunter name, but you will not get to keep your trophies. You will begin in Bretagne, France, with the 7mm Mag bolt-action rifle.
Click the "Choose Region" button, and select the locale in which you wish to hunt (Bretagne, France; Black Forest, Germany; Minnesota, USA; or Alberta, Canada). Click "Back" to return.
Click on the "Choose Weapon" button and select your hunting weapon (7mm Mag bolt-action rifle, 300 Win Mag lever-action rifle, 30/30 lever action rifle, shotgun, crossbow, longbow or composite bow). Click "Back" to return.
Click on the "Hunt" button. If this is the first time you have run the game, it will ask you to set up a hunter (enter name). When you have finished, it will run the game. On subsequent loads, you can click the "Score" button and add/select hunters on that screen.

(D) UPDATES:
(1) The manual indicates the "Mask Scent" feature is bound to the F9 key. This is incorrect. Press F3 to mask scent while in the game.
(2) Do not crouch while running. This may force the hunter to descend through the geometry. Hitting the "Esc" key will return you to the main menu.
(3) You may see a white screen during load up of the game. This is part of the loading process, and may take a moment.
(4) Using the Power Run mode may cause the exiting of the game to take a little longer than usual.
(5) If you have SoundBlaster 16, and are not getting any game sound, make sure you have the latest drivers. The SB16 drivers from early-mid 1998 do not play the Deer Season sound files.
(6) Deer Season draws collision lines vertically from overhanging rock. If you are attempting to move under an overhang, you will not be able to move any deeper than the outermost edge of the outcropping above.
(7) Pressing the "PrintScrn" button will return you to the main menu. If you wish to capture a screen shot, press the F6 key. The screen shot will be placed in the deer season directory.
(8) Soundblaster live sound problems. If you're encountering sound problems please follow these steps.
a. Click Start/Settings/Control panel.
b. Once at the control panel, double click "Multimedia"
c. Under playback where "SB Live! Wave Out" is selected, click Advanced
Properties.
d. Click the "Performance" tab.
e. Move the "Hardware acceleration" slider to NONE.
f. Click ok.
g. You're done.
