1.1 Minimum Specifications and Controls
Minimum Specifications.
Windows 95/98/98SE/Millenium Edition/2000
Pentium II 200 Mhz
16MB RAM
Eight-speed CD-ROM drive
Direct 3D compliant Video Card with 8MB Video RAM
Sound Card (100% Windows Compatible)

Controls
To switch between your strike and spare ball, press the A key (by default).
In Tournament Match Play mode, you have the ability to play with or without qualifying rounds. If you play without qualifying rounds, you'll move right to the elimination round. If you do have qualifying rounds, you'll have to be one of the top qualifiers (depending on how many you select for the tournament) in order to make the elimination round.
For both Match Play and Shootout modes, the Replay option lets you replay any round or match you have previously played. You can save any tournament in progress by clicking the Save option and saving your game to one of the save game slots. The current match or qualifying round will appear to the right of the Save option. To begin your game, click on this option.
For every Network Game mode except BethSoft.net, you must enter your name before searching for a game. You will not have the opportunity to enter you name once you have created or joined a game.
1.2. Installation Notes
If you choose not to install PBA 2001 to the default location
(c:\Program files\Bethesda Softworks\PBA 2001), you must install PBA 2001 into a valid folder.
1.3. PBA 2001 and Laptop computers.
PBA 2001 was not developed or tested on laptop computers. The reason for this is that most video and sound card companies used in laptop computers sacrifice DirectX compliance for miniaturization and portability. As such, these manufacturers do not offer drivers that are optimized for Direct3D gaming, which means that ultimately; you may have limited success in running the game properly.
1.4. Multi-Tasking (Alt-Tab)
PBA 2001 does allow multitasking, however running other programs in the background and switching between PBA 2001 and another program can make the game unstable and produce undesirable effects, such as visual artifacts or crashes when the game is restored. For best results, please make sure all open programs are closed before starting PBA 2001 -- this includes any programs running in the System Tray.
If you need to return to Windows while in the game, we recommend that you save your game from the main menu and selecting Exit from the main menu to get back to Windows quickly.
1.5 Windows NT 4.0
PBA 2001 was not developed for or tested on Windows NT 4.0.
1.6 Cyrix and AMD compatibility
PBA 2001 runs normally on computers using Cyrix or AMD processors.
However, performance on computers using these processors may be noticeably slower.
1.7 Miscellaneous tips for making the game run faster.
By selecting the Options menu from the main menu you can manipulate the sound and video options to customize the game's detail and graphics levels for best performance on your machine.
Tips for improving performance.
· Turn off one or more video options in the Options menu
· Turn your resolution down to 640X480
1.8 DirectX Help
If you are having trouble installing and/or playing PBA 2001 make sure you have DirectX version 7.0 or higher installed on your computer. You can install DirectX 7.0 from the PBA 2001 CD by going to the DirectX folder and running DXsetup. The directory path for DX setup is *:\Directx\dxsetup.exe ("*" is the letter of your CD-ROM Drive). You can also get the latest version from Microsoft (www.microsoft.com/directx). These Web pages can also provide support with common DirectX problems.

If you experience video related problems or graphic anomalies while you are playing PBA 2001, please contact your video card's hardware manufacturer to ensure you are using the latest certified DirectX drivers for your video card. Note that PBA 2001 detects the most appropriate video adapter automatically. If you want to try run PBA 2001 on another video adapter or add-in adapter, select another video adapter ControlPanel.exe program.

4. Network Notes and Troubleshooting
4.1 Network troubleshooting
Before choosing the Network Game option, be sure that have established a connection to the Internet, LAN, or any other computers you plan to connect to. If you experience problems connecting to BethSoft.net and are behind a firewall, you may want to check with your network administrator and confirm that you have all the necessary directplay and GameSpy ports open:
