3. Selecting Game options
-------------------------
With the exception of Game Controls, all the options are selected in-game.
Main Options:
-------------
You can select your Sound and Graphical options from the Main Menu before entering
the game. From the main screen select 'Options' to choose how you want the game to
look and Sound:
Audio:
------
This screen allows you to Set the volume of the in-game Music and Sound effects.
You can also set how the CD Music is played.
Music and Sound Effects:
------------------------
Slide the bars using the Mouse to select the levels that the different options will
be played at until you are satisfied with the level that the Sound is played at.
CD Music Options
----------------
Select Normal for each track to be played with a set piece of CD Music, or Random
so that Music is played at random for each track in the game.
Display:
--------
From this screen you can change your Display Driver, and the resolution the game
will play in. You can also select further graphical options to optimise the game
for your machine.
Display Device: Choose from Software, 3DFX, PowerVR or Direct3D (depending on what
your System supports). If you own a 3DFX or PowerVR card, then choose the 3DFX or
PowerVR option rather than Direct3D for greater performance.
Game Resolution: Choose the resolution you wish the game to play at. The higher the
resolution, the sharper the in-game graphics will appear - however, this may lower
performance.
Draw Distance (Via the More selection): Set to Near, Medium or Far. Increased draw
distance will allow you to see further in-game, but may lower performance.
Lighting (Via the More selection): Setting this to On will enable Advanced Lighting
effects in the game. This may affect performance and is unavailable in Software Mode.
Bilinear Filtering (Via the More selection): Setting this to on will 'filter' the
graphics, giving an out of focus look. This may affect performance and is unavailable
in Software mode.
Track Times:
------------
Select this option to see the Best Race times scored in the Track Attack mode of the
game. In this menu you can choose an individual track, and see the Best Three times
scored on each track.
Starting or Continuing a Game:
------------------------------
To start a new game or continue a previous savegame, then from the main menu click
the 'Start' option.
To Start a new game click the 'New Game' option, then choose either '1 Player', '2
Player', or 'Network game'. This will then take you to the Buggy Select screen and
then into the game.
To continue a Saved game, click the 'Load Game' option, then select the save you
wish to load. Then choose 'Continue' and pick the '1 Player' or '2 Players' option
to continue that game.
4. Multiplayer Game:
--------------------
Buggy supports up to 4 Players over a LAN.
To play Buggy over a Network, select 'Start' then 'New Game' then 'Network Game'.
This will then bring up various Network options.
One player must choose to Setup the game (Ideally whoever has the fastest PC) and
then the other players will join this game. If you are to setup the game, then choose
the 'Setup Game' option. If you are one of the players joining, then choose 'Join
Game'.
Setup Game:
-----------
The following options can be picked to setup a Network game.
Server: Choose either IPX or TCP/IP for the Network Protocol.
Game Name: Choose the name that the Network game will be listed as.
Number of Races: Set the number of Races to be played
Number of Laps: Set the number of Laps to be played on each Race
Bonus Gates: Enable/Disable the Bonus gates
Track Select: Choose Random to play Random Tracks, or Custom to bring up a selection of tracks to choose from.
Once you are happy with the selections, then click the Tick in the right hand corner
to continue and broadcast the game to other players.
Join Game:
----------
If you are joining a Network game, then wait for the game to appear on the Join Game
screen. Then just click it to Join!
5. TroubleShooting:
-------------------
DirectX and Drivers
-------------------
If you experience any problems with the game, then first ensure you are using the most
up to date driver software for your Hardware. If you are unsure about whether your
driver software requires updating then follow these steps:
1: Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your Windows Desktop
2: Double click on the icon with 'C:' underneath it.
3: Double click on the Folder icon marked 'Program Files'
4: Double click on the Folder icon marked 'DirectX'
5: Double click on the Folder icon marked 'SETUP'
6: Double click on the icon marked DXSETUP.
This will bring up a list of all installed hardware on your PC, and let you know which
drivers they are using. For Buggy (and other DirectX 5 games) to run correctly, all
the drivers must be of version 4.05.xx.xxxx or higher (for ex 4.38.xx.xxxx).
If you find some of your drivers are not of this version, then you need to update the
driver software installed on your PC. New drivers are available from the manufacturers
of your PC's hardware, and can also be downloaded free from the Internet.
3DFX Voodoo 2 Cards:
--------------------
If you experience trouble switching between 3DFX and Direct3D, then please download the latest drivers for your card. These are available via www.3dfx.com. We recommend that you shut the game down before swapping between these modes.
Joysticks and gamepads:
-----------------------
If you seem to be getting no response from these peripherals make sure you have set
them up correctly and tested them in the Windows Control Panel.

6. Hints And Tips:
------------------
*If you find any of the tracks difficult, try a different Buggy. Each Buggy has a
different balance of Grip and Weight so it may be better suited than the one you
are driving!
*Don't forget that you can play Track Attack (Exploration) mode to discover many
hidden Buggies..
*Learn the Gate Sequences to get round the tracks even quicker..
*Many of the tracks have Shortcuts for those who look hard enough..
*Don't forget to slow down for really tight corners, the Buggies can make really
tight turns at lower speeds.
