VR Sports Powerboat Racing(TM): Pure Power(TM)
To setup Powerboat Racing, simply insert the Powerboat CD-Rom into
your CD-Rom drive. The Windows 95 AutoRun feature will start the set
up program for you and lead you through the necessary steps to setup
the game on your system. If you have AutoRun disabled, go to the CD
and double click on the setup.exe file to start the game.
Additions to the manual.
When turning off transparencies in the options, this automatically
turns off reflections.
When using Hardware acceleration you will only be able to play the
game in full screen mode.
If you use somebody else's Championship saved games, they will only
work if you have the same passwords activated as them.
Steering Wheel Controls:
Wheel Left/Right = Left/Right
Throttle = Accelerate (menu cycle)
Button 1 = Trim Up (Menu Option Select)
Button 2 = Trim Down (Previous Menu)
Back Up Utility:
This is a utility which will allow you to make back up copies of your
best Challenge times to give to friends to beat, or as a backup for
yourself.
In the Powerboat Racing directory that you installed to, double click
on the PBChall icon.
This will bring up a menu with a list of all tracks, monohull and catamaran,
and the Backup, Restore and Close options. Any challenges that can be backed
up will have a white box next to them. To backup the challenges that you want,
check the box next to that challenge. When all challenges are highlighted,
then press Backup.
To load in challenges, press the Restore option and then select the file you
want to load back in.
Changing the install directory to the root directory of your computer may
cause problems. To avoid this, please install Powerboat Pure Power at in
at least one folder (ex. "C:\PBoat").
Be sure to take a look at the Mindspring (tm) Internet Service Provider,
located in the 'Mindspring' folder on the CD.
Troubleshooting.
Q: I cannot get the game to work at all with my computer?
A: The most common causes of problems with a Windows 95 native product
are the incompatibilities with Directx and the Hardware. If you are having
trouble with sound or video with a native Windows 95 game, there is a
possibility that some of your hardware is experiencing difficulty
communicating with the Microsoft Directx Drivers. To test your current
Drivers for Directx compatibility, click on your 'start' button at the
left hand corner of your task bar, then select 'Find' and then 'Files
or Folders. In the 'Named' selection, type in 'DXSETUP' and hit the
return key. This should locate
the file 'DXSETUP.EXE'. Now double click on 'DXSETUP.EXE' to launch it.
This will bring up a small box that displays your current Directx
drivers down the left hand side and their status to the right. All
directx drivers need to be certified. If any have spaces next to them
you will need to update that driver.
If, for example, your 'Primary Display Driver' is not certified, then you
will need to contact either Microsoft or the manufacturer of your
video card and get them to send you a set of their latest Directx
certified drivers. You will then need to install these on your machine
and run 'DXSETUP.EXE' to check that all your drivers are now
certified.
Q: When the game is played, there is no audio.
A: If you are having any sound problems with your game, make sure all
of your Directx Drivers are certified (See Directx Problems).
Not having the correct sound drivers can cause your machine to lock,
make the screen go blank or not give you any sound. If you experience
any of these problems contact your Sound Card manufacturer and get
them to send you their latest drivers.
Q: Whenever I play the game using the keyboard, if certain
combinations of keys are pressed then I get no response.
A: Certain types of keyboard will have no response when a sequence of
keys is pressed at the same time. This is a keyboard hardware fault. If
you experience this problem, try the alternate trim keys.
Q: Why when I run the software version do I only get full screen mode?
A: Windowed mode is only available in the software version if your
desktop is set to 15 or 16-bit.
