Known problems
1. Matrox Mystique resolution support
320x240 mode does not work with Wipeout on Matrox Mystique with the drivers tested, please use 320x200 if you want to run in low res.
2. Bi-linear filtering
Due to the nature of bi-linear filtering on colour keyed textures, the tree textures on some of the tracks have a black boarder around them when bi-linear filtering in switched on.
3. Running in 320x200
We have included the 320x200 resolution because Wipeout doesn't run on some cards at 320x240. When the low resolution graphics are converted to 320x200, the bottom line of pixels in trimmed off and makes some of the text in menus difficult to read.
4. Music volume not controllable
On some sound cards, the music volume in not controllable in the game. You will need to set it in windows before you load the game.
5. Key press restrictions on some keyboards
Some keyboards seem to be restricted to only two or three key presses at a time. Packard Bell and Gateway keyboard are known to have this restriction. This can make playing Wipeout difficult. If you have one of these keyboards, it is recommended that you play by joypad, joystick or mouse.
6. Key combinations when using 3Dfx card
The following key combinations will cause a loss of sound in the game:
ALT + ESCAPE
CONTROL + ESCAPE
7. PowerVR blocky tree problem
The trees in the scenery on some of the tracks appear blocky on the PowerVR cards using the latest drivers (which are supplied on the CD - see section SPECIAL DRIVERS below). VideoLogic are currently fixing this for subsequent driver releases.
8. PowerVR drivers
Wipeout will only work with the release version of the PowerVR drivers.
9. ATI Rage 2 drivers
At the time of writing, ATI made an amendment to their drivers to allow colour keyed transparency on some of the graphics in the game. If you are running Wipeout on the ATI and the text and other graphics has a square, black background, then you have an older version of the drivers. Please refer to ATI’s web page for the latest drivers.
10. DirectX 5
Wipeout isn’t fully compatible with the beta version of DirectX 5 that we had at time of writing this document. The release version of DirectX 5 may well work but we won’t know until it is released - it should be backwards compatible to DirectX 3.
11. Running in 800x600 resolution
You may find that Wipeout tells you that your system can run in 800x600 but when you select this, the game drops back into windows or crashes while loading. If this happens, select another resolution and re-load.
12. Keep the CD in the drive
We recommend that you keep the Wipeout CD in the CD drive once the game has loaded, otherwise you may find that the game becomes jerky and difficult to play.
