If any of you are having trouble where it says that you’ve got to insert a CD-ROM then see step 5 of the instructions.

Replacing the Sims.exe with the cracked one fixes the problem since it enables you to start the game without a CD.

So, I’m not sure if this is what you’re talking about, but I just had to do an hour long process to figure out what happened to my game:

Long story short, I wanted space on my computer and went through the uninstall process on my computer. Pretty sure I did it through the “Add or Remove Programs” feature on Windows, nothing crazy. Well, it kept all the folders, so I deleted them because nothing in them worked anyway.

Today, I had the wild desire to redownload, but when I went to install, I kept getting a message that said “An installation support file could not be installed – catastrophic failure”. Turns out, the fix is STUPID easy and I found the solution on Reddit.

All you have to do is go to file explorer and enter “C:Program Files (x86)InstallShield Installation Information” in the bar (NOT the search bar, but the folder bar). Once in that folder, delete everything in it- DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDER ITSELF. That should fix the issue should you want to reinstall.

The folder is hidden, so don’t go looking in the program files for it, just go to its exact location instead. Everything is detailed in the reddit link below.

Reddit link to the fix I used: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nr2003/comments/cy5r4w/an_installation_support_file_could_not_be/

well, i deleted the contents of the folder, but the game is still stuck in the add/.remove programs list. before it would say “catastrophic failure,” but now it does not do anything….

ALSO to see hidden folders – in the top of the window click view > in the show hide section: [] hidden items < check that off

I had this problem and downloaded Revo Uninstaller which was really helpful to uninstall it for me. If y’all wanna try that maybe~

Yeah Revo Uninstaller is great for uninstalling programs, really recommend it because it even deletes leftover files and folders.

To add, unfortunately if you just deleted the folder, I’m not sure what your trouble is. You should still be able to find how to uninstall it under the “Add or Remove Programs” feature. Deleting a folder doesn’t delete the program without uninstalling, I don’t believe.
