      I have this same problem, but basically I can’t see any icons (objects in buy mode, Sims’ icons in play mode or the relationship tab, Sims’ task lists in the upper left-hand corner). I can hover over all of the missing icons and see a brief pop-up of text, but it disappears before I can actually read it. In game pop-up screens don’t show up, the game just appears to freeze, and I have to hit enter or esc to get out of the invisible pop-ups. This means I can’t make a selection in pop-ups where selections need to be made (yes, no, invite over, invite somewhere, talk, etc.). There are also random freezes, but hitting esc gets the game past them and back and running. This is my favorite game, and I would really love if fixes could be found for these problems so I don’t have to try to track down a CD to buy.

    Anytime I run setup.exe or start.exe a pop up says “Unknown error occurred, aborting setup…” and then closes. I’ve tried restarting my computer and also deleting and re-extracting the .7z, I also tried moving the folder from my downloads to somewhere else. It worked the first time and it installed but the game wouldn’t launch, so I deleted the whole thing to reinstall it. But now it’s broken and doesn’t work. Help?

    when ever i try to start the game it has a popup and it said “cannot locate the dvd-rom please insert the correct dvd-rom, select ok and restart application” what shold i do?

    For those having issues:

    -Use the setup.exe in the setup folder, not the start.exe
    -if the setup.exe does not work, restart your pc then it will (run that exe as administrator which is normally right click the file and then select ‘run as administrator’

    -when using the crack, you need to copy and paste that file in to the directory you installed the game to – NOT the directory where you first extracted all the files
    -if your code does not work use: 4STT-BQQG-VBL3-YK44-LGDH

      I’ve been trying to figure out where to copy and paste the sims.exe file and no matter where I put it, it says it “could not find the sims data directory”, could you clarify what you mean? the initial zip file went to my downloads folder on my C drive but I extracted the files to a folder I made called “Maxis” on my D drive

        1 – Copy the file named “Sims.exe” from the “The Sims Crack” folder.
        2- Find the folder where The Sims was installed, then paste it there. It will ask to overwrite, do it. And done.

        you’re supposed to paste that in the directory where you installed the game and replace the original

        C:Program Files (x86)MaxisThe Sims if you didn’t modify the directory

    Everything works fine, but does anyone have this problem? I can’t find a solution anywhere… The only piece of clothing that shows up, is whatever my Sims wears daily. ALL the other clothes or skins just don’t appear, leaving me with a floating head. I’ve tried buying new clothes that could work, but none of them appear. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Thank you! It worked for me 🙂 Got the load error that many get, but after following the steps in point 8 and trying again, it only did the loading screens once and then let me play! Some minor glitches beyond that, but on the whole everything is working and I’m so happy to get to indulge in childhood nostalgia again 🙂

    I think I’ve installed everything correctly, but when I open the game and I’m on the neighborhood screen, it constantly cycles through the various expansion pack dialogues. I thought it needed time to load/install, but it’s been like this for over an hour. This is the complete collection. Thanks in advance!
