When I go to run the start.exe, once I hit install, I get an error message saying “unknown error encountered, aborting setup…”. I’ve tried running the program as an administrator and tried different compatibility settings, but nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

    Thank you for the download!

I have followed the instructions on how to install, however when I go to launch the initial game images are shrunken and distorted, and it eventually closes itself then prompts error:
    ‘FATAL ERROR
    Game cannot be started because
The graphics card doesn’t support thousand colors.
    Exit now’

I did find a reddit post who had the same issue, but the advice posted on how to fix has not worked for me.

So far I have tried compatibility Windows XP (Service Pack 2 and 3), checking the reduced color mode (trialled at both 8 and 16bit)

Any advice on how to get around this? Would be very much appreciated! Thanks 🙂

Does anyone happen to know to take screenshots while in game that have a nice resolution? I tried using PrintScreen but it didn’t work.

If you have Windows 10 or 11, press the Windows key + PrintScreen. It automatically saves it in your Pictures folder. The game does have it’s own camera feature but the resolution tends to be lower quality. There should be in-game settings to change the resolution of the picture saved but it’s still best to do a Windows screenshot.

Hi. Thank you for this download! I looove the sims 1!

I have a tiny problem tho. I played for the first time yesterday and saved my game and closed it. When I went to play again now my game wasn’t saved. Have I installed the game incorrectly or do you know what the problem might be?

Downloaded before and was able, to run game…sort of, so i ended up deleting. Went to reinstall, followed all steps the same way…but compared to my last download, there was more in the folder. now it just shows the cd option and the noCD option…could not see the start.exe, so i stupidly clicked the cd option and i did see start.exe, but the code he provided is wrong and unless i click on cd option, there is no start.exe at all, like it was before. Now that im writing this, the archive download link, says the file is unavailable and being updated or something, so i cant redownload..i still have the working download, just cant get game to work, since its no start.exe after i abstract it or crack folder…unless i double click the cd file…really disappointed, since i had it work at first a whilee ago…it kept crashing and now, the new download, isnt working for me

Hey so this might be a really dumb problem but I’m not really sure what else I could possibly do about it at this point and I want to know if there’s actually anything I can do. I’m running Windows 10.

I tried uninstalling this off my computer to try a method I found to run the game off the disk, but it’s not working. Trying to run any disk just prompts me to play the game like normal. I tried several times to uninstall it from the control panel but it just pops up a catastrophic failure window (“An installation support file could not be installed”), and what I assumed to be the uninstallation file included in the zip just stopped opening after a few attempts. I deleted every single trace of the game and its files off of my computer, but trying to run the disk again still just prompted me to start playing like normal, and “The Sims Complete Collection” still shows up in the control panel. I tried downloading the zip again to see if that would change anything, but now the download links do nothing (though that may just be an issue on my end).

Am I just being dense? I’d really love to play this game again but I just don’t know what else to try to do about this.

I have the same issue. Super frustrating, as it’s not technically in my C: drive at all. It’s more like a ghost; however, it’s presence is interfering with the ability to reinstall it correctly.
