Welcome to Total Request Live Trivia.

have entered a name, you will be assigned a buzz in key on the keyboard
(see Interface and Controls). Finally, you will need to select the number of
categories you wish to play.
You will also be given the opportunity to review the rules of the game before
playing the game. Simply click Yes when asked if you wish to see the rules.
This will take you to an overview of how to use the buzzers and keys to
answer questions. Enjoy Total Request Live Trivia.

4

Interface and Controls

Buzz In Keys

The interface will vary slightly during the game as you enter different game
types (see Game Types). The overall controls for the game will, however,
remain basically the same. The screen below illustrates the locations of the
various interface components and controls that you will find yourself using
while playing Total Request Live Trivia. Brief descriptions of these interface
components and controls can be found on the pages following later in this
section.

Each player will have a key on the keyboard that they will use to buzz in
when they believe they know an answer. The first player to hit their buzz in
key will have a chance to answer the question. If the player answers incorrectly, other players may buzz in to try and answer the question. The Z, M,
^ , and + keys on your keyboard are designated as buzz in keys and will
appear below the name of the player.

Answer Keys
In certain game types, once you buzz in you need to choose between four
available answers. These answers will be labeled with the number 1-4. To
choose one of the available answers, simply click on the appropriate number on the keyboard. These keys will be used in all game types except for
the Keyword (Speed Round).

Time Clock

Clock

This game is all about thinking fast on your feet. You will only have a limited
amount of time to buzz in, answer the question, and/or use a help key. Keep
an eye on the time clock to make sure you don't run out of time.

Next Question

After you have buzzed in on a question, three small buttons will appear next
to you bulb. These are special options, which will help you as you play the
game. Use these with care, because you only get one of each type of help
key to last you throughout the game. Once you have used a help key, it will

no longer be available and there is no way to get it back. Refer to the list
below for a more detailed explanation of what each help key does. These
options will be available in all game types except for the Keyword (Speed
Round).
Clock
Selecting this help key will reset the time clock back to ten seconds, giving
you additional time to think about the question.
Freebie
If you buzz in to answer a question and realize that you have no clue what
the answer is, you can use this help key. Selecting the freebie will let you
pass on the question, without losing any points. Once you select this help
key, you will forfeit your turn for this question. You will be returned to active
play on the next question.

Options Menu
You can access the Options Menu by hitting the ESC key at any time during
the game. The game will be paused while the Options Menu is open. This
menu gives you the available options, listed in the screen below.

New Question
If you don't know the answer to a question, but believe you have a good
chance of answering another question in this same category, you can select
this help key. Like the freebie, this help key will let you skip the question
without losing any points. But instead of removing you from active play for
this question, it will skip ahead to another question in the same category,
which you will have to answer.

7

Total Request Live Trivia has five game types that will appear throughout
the game: Multiple Choice, Keyword (Speed Round), Keyword (Multiple
Choice), Guess Who, and Timeline. The following pages will provide a brief
overview of each game type.
One thing remains the same in each of the game types…the fastest finger
and the quickest wit rule. Once you think you know the answer, buzz in. A
right answer wins you points. A wrong answer will cost you points and a
great deal of embarrassment.
8

Multiple Choice

Keyword (Speed Round)

This is your standard multiple choice style of question, like you would find
on a test in school. A question will appear on the screen, with four possible
answers. You will have ten seconds to buzz in, if you believe you know the
question. Once you buzz in, the clock will reset and you will have ten seconds to enter your answer.

The Speed Round will test your reflexes, knowledge, and ability to think fast
under pressure. A keyword will appear near the top of the screen. A series
of seven words will then begin appearing on the screen, each lasting only
about a second. Every time you see a word flash on the screen that is related to the keyword, buzz in. Only the first player to buzz in will win/lose the
points.

Keyword (Multiple Choice)

Guess Who

This is very similar to the multiple choice game type, except instead of having a question to answer, you have a keyword to match up. A keyword will
appear on the screen, with four possible answers. One of the possible
answers is related to the keyword. It could be the title of a song they recorded, a movie they appeared in, a member of the band, etc. You will have ten
seconds to buzz in, if you believe you know which item is related to the keyword. Once you buzz in, the clock will reset and you will have ten seconds
to enter your answer.

In a Guess Who game, you are given four clues describing one of the four
answers located in the center of the screen. The game will begin by displaying one clue. Every three seconds additional and more specific clues will be
revealed, until all four are visible. Once you believe you know the answer,
buzz in and select the numbered key of the correct answer. Remember the
clock is ticking. You only have a total of 10 seconds to answer the question.

Technical Support

You will be presented with four events that are related to the category
name. Your job is to put these events in the correct order. It is very important to pay attention to the category name and to the announcers instructions. These will clue you in on the order in which you need to arrange the
events. For example, if the category name is "Through the Years" you will
need to arrange the events in the order that they took place. Once you
believe you know the correct answer, buzz in and select the numbered keys
in the correct order.

If you have a technical problem concerning the operation of our software,
