V-RALLY MODE
In V-Rally Mode, you can play out your career. You need to prove yourself
in the 1.6L FWD (Front Wheel Drive) category, and then work your way up at
your own pace. Aim for the top and try to win the supreme title: Champion of
the 2.0L 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) category.
Contract Clauses
As with any contract, the contract you sign with a team will detail your role and
goals. The clauses are as follows:
- Length: the contract is for one season only, but can be renewed.
- Driver position: the team's 1st or 2nd driver.
- Season Goal: this depends on the team's position in the previous year's
rankings.
New Game
A season starts with the signing of a contract with a new team, or renewing
your contract with your previous season’s team. You have several options for a
season in the 1.6L FWD category; this means different teams and different
cars. It's “make-your-mind-up” time! If you show off your skills behind the
wheel, you might attract the attention of the top 1.6L FWD teams at the end of
your first season, so give it your best shot!
1st Contract…
You can manage your career and chart your progress from your office. Go to
your computer and use your e-mail to view the offers you’ve received from the
teams, check the contracts, and access other information relevant to your decision. (As you peruse the contract, you can find out about the team in question.
This information is found at the side of the screen and features several items:
team name, the car (logo + photo), the team's previous year’s ranking in its
category, morale and its strengths and weaknesses.
You can also catch up on the latest competition news. If you choose to forge
ahead and join a bigger team, you will be invited to try out in a series of tests,
the outcome will decide whether you can join the team. For these teams "only
the hottest drivers get to sign a contract." If you have not signed a contract you
cannot take part in a Rally.
4
A Season
A season comprises of several rallies during the year. Each rally takes place in
a different country and is made up of several Stages. The order in which the
rallies take place during a season is always the same, but each year the Stages
can be modified in such a way that every year will feel completely different!
There are four rallies in the 1.6L FWD category and six in the 2.0L 4WD
category.
All sorts of things can happen in a season – if your results are outstanding,
other teams may contact you or you might smash your car up and be unable to
achieve your team's goals. Keep your strategy tight throughout the competition,
establish priorities for repairs and modifications, and adapt your driving style to
each stage and to each rally. In short, start thinking and acting like a
championship driver.
1st Rally…
A rally consists of several Stages in the same country. During the competition,
you are allowed several stops to the Service Area. Make the most of these
stops to gain those precious seconds; they could make all the difference.

Service Area
This is a strategic location where the driver has a chance to fine-tune his
motor, make repairs and access information about weather and race conditions
before starting a Stage. He may also receive information about upcoming
specials. Races can be won or lost here; your service area is your best friend!
Advice: The first time you head to the Service Area make sure you take a good look at
all the options on offer.
Repairs:
Repair your car when damaged during the race.
- Setup:
Fine-tune your car’s components in line with your strategy – tyres, brakes,
suspension, etc.
- The Race:
On with the helmet and gloves and get behind the wheel; the serious
business is about to start!
you will be in your office surrounded by everything you need to make the
decisions that will influence the forthcoming season. You will receive offers of
contracts from teams that have approached you in the preceding season, along
with their "credentials".
Between Rallies
Between rallies or between seasons, you will return to your office, but certain
things differ from the Pre-season:
- Offers from rival teams do not come in the form of contracts, but in the form
of tryouts and tests. You can always transfer to another team if you don’t fit in
where you are. "The ultimate choice is made in the Pre-season."
- You can also access the rally debriefing for the previous race; a good way to
pinpoint any driving weaknesses.
Victory!
It's for real! You are the winner! The media gets hold of it and the
photographers are out in force.
Stages…
Improve your Driving Skills!
A Stage comprises of a 6-mile course from point A to point B.
In your office, the following information is available:
In the Service Area…
A whole season can be won or lost in the service area. The way you analyse
the information, the decisions you make, and the time spent in the service area
can win or lose you the title. The pressure is mounting! Only drivers who can
stand the heat can ever hope to become a champion! The list of damaged or
critically worn parts is displayed and classified in order of importance.
Pre-Season
The Pre-season period is of vital importance! Your choices in the Pre-season
will affect the development of your whole career.
Consider the direction you want your career to take! During the Pre-season,

- Rankings
This is a brief summary of all teams and drivers, their abilities, their
performances …
- Personal / Data:
All the important information you need to manage your V-Rally correctly (and
your "career"!). General statistics concerning all useful external information
relevant to the driver, his team and the season and performance information
relating directly to your driver and changes throughout the game.
- Speed
A driver's speed is the key to his success; no one becomes a champion without it.
However, speed may not be all it takes to make a champion, but it sure
does count!

- Consistency
A great driver always gives a consistent performance. It's no good breaking
records in one Stage, then coming off the road in the next. Know when to
take your foot off the accelerator and swap your demon driver attitude for a
cooler head.
- Goals
Achieving goals is very important for a team that has to answer to its
sponsors. It is better to deliver a respectable performance than to take
unnecessary risks.
- Experience
The more rallies a driver races, the more respect a driver earns.
Create a Winning Team!
Are team spirits always high or rather down in the dumps? In all racing
competitions, no one team dominates; a team that flies high in the
championship during one season may be completely outraced in the next,
only to come back stronger later. You can affect your team's development and
prove to be one of its great strengths. The better your results, the better
the car and service you can expect from your team. Note: a team cannot
change its race category.
- Performance
This is linked to ranking and impacts on your car's performances.
- Budget
At the start of each season, a budget is allocated to each team according
to its ranking. Some teams may want to invest more in a car, and this
explains why certain teams achieve a low ranking in spite of heavy financial
investment. A decent budget allows the team to develop a car for the future
and to ensure its reliability throughout the season.
These decisions are taken before you sign any contract and this plays to your
advantage in terms of deciding which team to join The team’s performance
level will be stated on any contract offer.
Teams Ranking
At the end of each rally and at the end of a season, teams are ranked
according to their results. At the end of each rally, the points obtained by each
of the cars are added to those of previous rallies and the teams are ranked
accordingly. When two teams have the same number of points,
the best race position achieved will decide their final ranking.
- Reliability
This factor affects the strength of your car. Your car is more likely to break
down and suffer mechanical failure in an unreliable team than in a reliable
one. Each team has its own reliability factor that is re-evaluated at the end of
each season. The better your team's results, the more reliable the team will
become.
- Staff morale
This is directly linked to your results; fulfilling your goals improves your
team's ranking, and morale will be sky high; if not, it will be at rock bottom.
Team morale has a huge affect on car repair time during stops at the
service area.

QUICK RACE
Time Attack
Time Attack Mode enables you to train to achieve the best possible time on
the same (long) courses as V-RALLY Mode by competing against your own
Ghost car if you so choose.
- Multiplayer Time Attack:
Up to four players can compete on a course, each starting at the line in
full-screen. Remember, although you may beat the specified time, you should
also aim to beat the times of your Ghost car and the other players.
When the specified course time of the 4th track in a particular country is
beaten, you can then race all the courses of the country in the opposite
direction.
Challenges
Only the 1st challenge is available to begin with. This game mode is a series of
competitions in which you compete one after the other and where the difficulty
level increases. Depending on the challenge, you can sometimes choose your
car and always make adjustments. Each competition is made up of at least
3 Stages and has a total time in which to complete all the Stages. You need
to beat this time to succeed in the competition and move on to the next
challenge.
- Multiplayer challenge: (up to 4 players)
The aim is not to beat a specified time, but to race against other players' total
times.
