This document contains amendments to the documentation for LEGO Chess.

To print a hardcopy of this file, double-click on the 'My Computer'
icon on your desktop, then double-click on the icon representing your
CD-ROM drive. Find the icon representing the README.TXT file and
right click on this. Select 'Print' from the menu that appears.

I.     IMPORTANT!  CONFIGURATION PROGRAM

Contrary to what is stated in the manual, the Configuration program
does not appear the first time LEGO Chess is run. Instead, LEGO Chess
will automatically select the settings it detects are most suitable
for your system.

However, should you experience speed or performance problems you can
alter the driver and resolution settings using the Configuration program.
Contrary to what is stated in the manual, this program is accessed by
clicking on the 'LEGO Chess Configuration' entry in the 'Programs'
section of the 'Start' menu. You may then alter the settings as outlined
in the manual.

Please note that due to the diversity of 3D accelerator cards currently
available some people may find that certain special effects, such as
transparency, will cause unusual display problems. Should this occur you
are advised to choose an alternative driver from the Configuration program.

Also, you may experience performance difficulties with drivers not
certified by Microsoft.

Should you select the 'D3D 4MB+' driver, please note that your 3D
accelerator card must have at least 4Mb of onboard RAM.

Should you select the 'Krisalis Software Driver', you will find that you
can select some unusual resolutions such as 640x200, 640x240 and 800x300
- these are 'alternate scanline' resolutions which means that the computer
only displays every other scanline on-screen. These resolutions are
designed only for users who find that LEGO Chess is running slowly on
their system.

When you have finished using the Configuration menu you can either return
to Windows by clicking on 'Exit' or go straight into the game by clicking
on 'Play LEGO Chess'. Any altered settings will automatically be recorded
and used every time the game is run subsequently.

If, after experimenting with the various drivers, you are still
experiencing performance difficulties, you are advised to alter the game's
Detail Level in the Settings menu.


II.    VIEWING FULL-MOTION VIDEO

Please note that the full-motion video sequences are only viewable on
systems using an Intel CPU, i.e. Pentium or Pentium II.


III.   USING THE KEYBOARD

Contrary to what is stated in the manual, it is not possible to open menus
and/or select menu items using the keyboard.


IV.    TUTORIAL

It is recommended that you read the chapters in each book in sequence,
beginning at Chapter 1 and progressing through to the end.

However, should you have to leave a book in the middle, the computer will
mark the last unfinished chapter read with a '*' symbol.

On returning to the book you may then continue reading from that chapter
by clicking on the marked heading - the computer will automatically have
kept a record of your progress up to that point.

It IS possible to read the chapters in any order - the computer will still
keep a record of your progress. However, the computer will NOT mark all the
read chapters, only the first unfinished chapter in the book.


V.    ALTERING SETTINGS FROM WITHIN A CHESS GAME

You can access the Settings menu at any time during a chess game by
pressing F1. Please note, however, that the following settings cannot be
changed during a game:
      *   Detail Level
      *   Show Reflections
      *   Timed game settings (e.g. Time Limit For Game)


VI.   SETTING UP THE BOARD

Contrary to what is stated in the manual, it is not possible to remove
pieces by first selecting them and then clicking anywhere off the board.
Instead, pieces are removed by first selecting them and then clicking on the
wastebin in the window at the bottom of the screen.


VII.  NETWORK GAMES

Contrary to what is stated in the manual, it is not possible to access the
Set Up Board icon during a 'Network game'.

Also, it is not possible to set time limits before or during a 'Network game'
- any time limit settings either player may have defined will be ignored. 

In addition, the following gameplay settings are permanently set to 'On':
      *   Allow 'en passant' capture
      *   Allow castling
      *   Allow promotion

and the following gameplay setting is permanently set to 'Off':
      *   Must move touched piece
