I. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The following are the minimum system requirements for "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron"

--Microsoft Windows 98/ME/XP
--64 MB ram
--100 MB Hard drive space free
--8X CD
--8 Mb video card
--DirectX 8.1 required and included
--DirectX-compatible display capable of 800x600 resolution in 16-bit color
This game uses Microsoft's DirectX 8.1 technology, which requires your system to have the latest
Windows drivers that fully support DirectX 8.1 For more information on DirectX, see the DirectX
section of this readme file.
A Microsoft-compatible mouse is required.
When playing "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" on a minimum specification computer, be sure that no other programs are open in Windows, as this will cause the game to play more slowly than normal.

II. INSTALLING THE GAME
-----------------------------
Before installing the game, close all other applications.
1. Insert the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron " Disc into your CD-ROM drive and wait a few moments until the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron " splash screen appears. If the splash screen does not appear, please
refer to the AutoPlay section of this readme file.
2. Click the Install button to begin the installation process and follow the on-screen
instructions.

III. UNINSTALLING THE GAME
--------------------------------
To uninstall the game, select THQ/Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron from the Start Menu.
NOTE: You should always uninstall the game using the Uninstaller provided.
If you manually remove the game from your hard drive by dragging the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron "
folder to the Recycle Bin, certain files may be left behind causing problems if you reinstall the
game at a later time

IV. STARTING THE GAME
---------------------------
After installing "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron " you can run the game by choosing THQ/Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron in the Start Menu, by double-clicking the "Spirit"
shortcut on your desktop, or clicking the Play button on the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" splash screen
that appears after the game AutoPlays. To play "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron", the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" CD
must be in your CD-ROM drive at all times.

V. GAME CONTROLS
----------------------
Mouse Movement- Controls the direction in which Spirit runs/walks.
Left Button - Click to increase speed. Hold to continue moving at the current speed. Release to stop.
Click an object to pick it up and drag it.
Click on a person or animal to talk to them.
Right Button - Click to jump while moving. Click to kick while standing still.

VI. TROUBLESHOOTING
-------------------------
THQ thoroughly tests its games on a variety of systems before they are released, but it is
virtually impossible to test on all combinations of software and hardware. Many of the issues
you may encounter are caused by device drivers for video cards, sound cards and CD-ROM drives
that are not fully compatible with the Windows operating system and/or DirectX. The following
troubleshooting tips are intended to assist you in solving some of the common issues you might
experience in relation to the game.
-------DIRECTX 8.1-------
During the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" installation process, the program will determine if
Microsoft DirectX 8.1 needs to be installed on your computer. If so, the Microsoft DirectX 8.1 setup
program will install the appropriate files on your computer. After installation of DirectX 8.1,
you may be prompted to restart your machine for the new drivers to take effect.
If you chose not to install DirectX 8.1, and you find that later you need to install it, follow
these directions:
1. Insert "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" Disc into your CD-ROM drive.
2. Wait a few moments until the "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" splash screen appears.
3. Click on the Direct X Setup. This will launch the Microsoft DirectX 8.1 setup
program. Follow the on-screen instructions.
For those of you unfamiliar with DirectX, it is an API (Application Programming Interface) set
that increases the functionality and speed at which games play under the Windows operating
system. These API's allow direct access to the enhanced features of hardware under Windows.
With DirectX, a program has instant access to the hardware, allowing for great advances in
graphics, sound, video, 3D and network capabilities of games.
If you have other Windows games on your computer, chances are you already have an earlier version
of DirectX installed. In this case, the Microsoft DirectX 8.1 setup program will update your
files. This should not affect any games using previous versions of DirectX.
Should you encounter problems with DirectX, go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx/ for
additional information.
-------GAME LAUNCH PROBLEMS-------
Q: I try to launch the game, but it freezes my system!
A: Your video card may only support 2D graphics. If this does not correct the problem, please contact our Customer Support.
Q: The game seems to stutter, and doesn't run smoothly. Is there anything I can do about this?
A: Your system may be at or below the minimum requirements for the game. Make sure that all other
programs are closed before trying to run "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron". Next, try lowering the Graphics quality in the Options menu to "Good." Restart the game. If this does not correct the problem, please contact Customer Support.

There is an online manual on the Spirit CD-ROM. The online manual is an Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. You must have a reader installed to view the manual. We have included the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader® on the CD-ROM.
To install the Windows version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader to a PC:
1. Begin at the Windows® desktop.
2. Insert the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron CD disc into your CD-ROM drive.
3. In My Computer, right mouse click on the CD-ROM drive and choose Explore.
4. Open the Manual directory.
5. Open the Adobe directory.
6. Double-click on ar505enu.exe [or whatever is the current available version].
To view the online Manual:
1. Begin at the Windows® desktop.
2. Insert the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron CD disc into your CD-ROM drive.
3. In My Computer, right mouse click on the CD-ROM drive and choose Explore.
4. Open the Manual directory.
