I can’t save it! I can play as long as I can, but the game doesn’t save at all.. I mean, the button’s save animation works, but when I open the game again, there’s nothing to load from.

Does it have any solution? 🙁

Man, I wish this was still up. Loads of us don’t want to give EA another penny after all the half assed crap and broken games they pump out.

Agreed. The fact that I literally owe all the games but can not play them due to the CD port and now expected to buy a broken game from them AGAIN is crap.

And for OGD to stop silencing anything against their choice. Yes, I get it that they want to adhere to their policies and all, but there’s a clear line when it comes to a half-assed re-release that serves to make money out of nostalgia-driven players. I have requested them to return the links, commented on another comment thread criticizing the choice, and both of my comments were delete. Again, I understand their policy and I have no problem with it in general. But it shouldn’t be excused for cases like the Legacy Collection. People deserve actual games and releases that cater to the player, not the capital profit. I’m sure that EA did this purely to make the old games leave the abandonware status and give players no other option but to buy these mediocre messes of re-releases. Heck, read the reviews on both re-releases of TS1 and 2; everyone (and rightfully) complains about the plethora of issues that never existed on the original CD versions. One review I found even says that EA *stole* a patch that fixes the shadows bug WITHOUT GIVING CREDIT TO THE CREATORS.

To OGD, please stop deleting comments that question your choices and turning a blind eye. I am not trying to argue the rule or anything. But what you’re doing is bowing down to the corpos and letting them take money out of people with an overcharged release of an old game but with gamebreaking bugs (One bug literally involves cooked food dissapearing automatically, forcing players to use cheats or resorting to fast food and chips. Although it does simulate irl quite well, even though people play it to escape from reality), all while also silencing the voices of people who have a reason to complain (whic hby itself is also very undemocratic). Actually listen and respond. No one is trying to hunt you down or force it down. But we are owed an explanation as to why you bow down like that. Because I can’t help myself but not find the abandonware policy as an excuse to remove the original, functioning versions of the games.

Hi everyone, thank you for all the support. For The Sims 25th Anniversary, The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 have been relaunched by EA as “Legacy Collections”. They are available for purchase on the EA website, Steam, and other platforms.

As per our abandonware policy, we have disabled download links to these games. We hope you will find enjoyment playing them through the official channels.

Posting abandonware is still copyright infringement. So removing the download just because EA did a shitty relaunch is really fucking stupid.

Like it’s obvious with this release that EA doesn’t give two shits and a wind about the sims franchise. So why you’re removing it because ea launched the game makes no sense. They don’t care about your shitty old game website. For fuck’s sake

copyright infringement is still copyright infringement. and EA didn’t care the first 10 years you had this online… so it makes no sense to take it down.

HEY if EA didn’t care about the first 10 years of you hosting an infringed copy of their game, what makes you think with a shitty re release that is somehow magically even more buggy than the original that EA is going to be a legal threat to you? they couldn’t give a care about this stupid little website.

This game won’t even open for me. I followed the steps, didn’t work. I uninstalled, then reinstalled and it still didn’t work. It won’t open at all.

Look up the sims2 subreddit and follow their steps, they have a useful wiki with tech support. Basically you’ll need to get the Graphics Rule Maker to get the game to recognize modern GPUs and also the 4GB patch called “George”. You’ll find links to both in the wiki. Following these steps fixed it for me.

Any other tips for getting rid of shadow boxes? I followed the steps but made no difference. Besides that, I’m amazed by this! Its so nice to play the game I’ve already spent thousands on.

I managed to install correctly, and everything runs fine at first, but it crashes within 15 minutes every time. If I run in compatibility mode, it crashes in under a minute. I’ve tried all the properties settings suggestions. The only thing that gets it to the 15ish min mark is windowed mode. Has anyone fixed these multiple crash issues?

Graphics Rules Maker and 4GB patch called “George”. And don’t run it in compatibility mode because that’ll undo the patch. You’ll find both of these in the wiki of the sims2 subreddit.

Tried installing this on a M1 mac through the porting kit. First part of the install went fine, even though the porting kit for some reason tagged the setup at first as a jurassic park game (but it was for sims 2 when the install actually begun), but when I tried to install part 2, dxwebsetup in the same virtual instance machine, it just got an error in the installer after declining the bing bar. Do you have any pointers why the install might have crashed? Is the bing bar required? Isnt that for old browsers? Thank you in advance, and thank you for creating this!

Hi, Ive got everything done up until downloading the direct X. I press to install and it brings me to the set up, but when the downloading bar happens, the window doesnt respond and a pop up comes up saying that it cant be installed. Then the direct X window pops up saying they have determined that there is a newer version of direct X so it wont download. What do I do?
