How to play on Windows
- Download and Extract The_Sims_Complete_Collection_Win_Setup_EN.zip. If you don’t know how to extract, read this article: https://oldgamesdownload.com/wiki/install-games-on-windows/
- Double click on the file which says start.exe and then follow the on-screen instructions
- They will prompt you to enter a serial code – the code you want to use is: EQMV-73XB-F8J4-GSLX-4M67
- They will now prompt you to register – you want to select “Register later”.
- Now, open the the file called “The Sims Crack” and drag & drop the “Sims.exe” to the directory where you installed the game (by default this is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\The Sims). When the popup appears telling you the file already exists, you want to select “REPLACE”.
- Right click on the setup.exe file and select create a desktop shortcut
- You can now launch your game form your desktop!
- IMPORTANT: If your game is stuck in an endless loop when you launch it then try doing this:
• Right click on the game icon and click on properties. Go to the “Compatibility” tab and then:
• Check the box next to “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and then select “Windows XP (Service Pack 2)” in the drop down menu.
• Check the “Run as an administrator”
• And then click on “Apply” and then click on “Okay”. Now, launch the game by double clicking on the game icon.

Windows
Best advice for a game this old is to install to a custom directory instead of going with the default install directory of C:\Program Files (x86). If you install it there, (modern) Windows will fight you the entire way for doing anything from saving to changing files. Install it somewhere like your user directory (C:\users\(YOUR USER NAME)\My Documents or somewhere you don’t have to use the admin controls to manipulate the files.
Very disappointed followed everything it stated but comes up with ; could not find the sims data directory. After trying different things ended up uninstalling. D:
everything when fine till I tried clicking on the icon on my desktop and it tells me “could not find the sims data directory”. Now I’m stuck, any advise?
It says “unknow error encountered. aborting setup”. Does anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks in advance!
I’m having the same issue. Did you find a solution?
It works, I’ve been playing for awhile, but now, when I save or when I try to go Downtown (which prompts a save), the game crashes out. It saves, but it crashes. Has anyone encountered this? How to fix?
Everytime I open sims.exe it says “could not find The Sims data directory” I have it downloaded and everything, any ideas?
I’m having issues with Start.exe when i click install nothing happens.
Cannot overwrite the Sims.exe with the one from the Crack folder because it creates a link no matter where it is on my PC
When i click install in the start.exe nothing happens, it does ask me for permissions however once i click yes nothing else pops up
Hello! I can’t seem to get past the endless loop. I’ve tried run as admin & changing to Windows XP & Vista but no luck 🙁 I really want to play. Any tips?
hi did you eventually get this right because i have been struggling as well.
Hi I fixed that problem randomly today. I just installed it yesterday and did everything verbatim, and did the compatibility troubleshoot to run in in Windows XP, then ran it as administrator and the game opened but when I got to thee neighborhood it was stuck in “THE LOOP” (loading the unhoods endlessly).
So just on a hunch, I deleted the desktop shortcut, and replaced the oldgameesdownload’s “Cracked” file in the instal folder with this cracked file that I got from ComputerCatTech on You Tube. Then I created a new shortcut from that on the desktop, ran the compatibility test again, then opened the game in “Run as Administrator”. Everything works fine now…SO FAR..but I haven’t tried visiting other places like studiotown yet so idk if I’ll have issues there.
Here’s the link to ComputerCatTech’s video – the link to the Sims 1 Complete Collection crack is in the description box:
