Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is a real-time strategy video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the third installment in the Warcraft series and the fourth real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard studio. The game follows a strong RTS performance by Blizzard after the release of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, and StarCraft, which all had considerable commercial success. The PC and Macintosh versions of Warcraft III were released on July 3, 2002 by Blizzard Entertainment in North America, and two days later, in Europe by Sierra Entertainment on July 5, 2002. The game takes place in the medieval-fantasy world of Azeroth several years after the events of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal. In addition to the humans and orcs already present in the first two games of the series, Warcraft III allows the player to command two new races: the elusive night elves and powerful undead. The game is distinguished from the previous Warcraft games by its fully three-dimensional graphics, as ell as also the introduction of heros, which is arguably one of the biggest additions to the Warcraft games. Following its release, Reign of Chaos sold over a million copies a month after its publication and three million copies sold in less than a year. Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos was awarded six titles of best PC game of the year and many titles of best strategy game of the year.
