About ABPA Backgammon

Developed in conjunction with the American Backgammon Players Association, Backgammon for the Intellivision is a straightforward conversion of the classic board game of the same name. You can play against the computer or a friend. Two different levels of play allow for beginners or experts to jump right in.

The Backgammon playing area is a square that is divided into two equal halves by a bar. Players begin with fifteen game pieces. One player will use black pieces and the other white. The object of the game is to be the first to move all your pieces completely around and off of the board. One player moves clockwise and the other counterclockwise.

If you have never played Backgammon, you should know that it is a game of both luck and strategy. Lady luck is a primary factor because you have to rely on the roll of the dice. Strategy comes into play when you have to make difficult choices, such as when you should leave a game piece by itself. A solo piece can be knocked off the board by your opponent. If it does get knocked off, it must start from the opposite end of where it ultimately needs to go.
