About Ace Lightning

Ace Lightning is a platformer/third-person shooter game based upon the European television program of the same title. It was released in 2002, but only in Europe; for the Game Boy Advance as a side-scrolling game, while the PC and PlayStation 2 were released as a third-person shooter game. The PC and PlayStation 2 versions were developed by Gamezlab and the Game Boy Advance version by Tiertex Design Studios. The game was published by BBC Multimedia for all three platforms.

The storyline of the game followed the synopsis of the show. Lord Fear escapes from the prison located in the Sixth Dimension and steals the Amulet of Zoar. Shortly after escaping, Ace Lightning stops him and a fight ensues, shattering the Amulet in the process. The pieces of the amulet are then stolen by bosses and hidden in the attractions located in the Carnival of Doom. At the end, Ace defeats Lord Fear in his Haunted House hideout and sends him, using the power of the Amulet, back to the Sixth Dimension.

Each level in the Game Boy Advance version consists of a platform area and a boss battle, the boss corresponding to its surroundings and nature of the level. In the overworld, or the amusement park itself, Ace can be ambushed by enemies, leading to a normal or a miniboss battle. Two training minigames can be unlocked, one being a shooting gallery, and the other testing Ace's strength.

The PC and PlayStation 2 versions require Ace to beat one of the four levels and obtain a piece of the Amulet. However, to obtain an Amulet piece, Ace must either defeat the boss or collect a certain amount of Doom Dimes. To attack, Ace can use his weapon, the Lightning Lance, which can fire out lightning bolts. The Lightning Lance's power can be charged up by collecting lightning-bolt power-ups that appear after Ace defeats an enemy. As an alternative, Ace can use his fists to defeat enemies, and wrist cannons, that can stun enemies for a certain amount of time. To replenish health, energy drinks must be obtained. The Shield of Justice defends Ace with a force field. Ace can double jump to substitute his ability of flight, which cannot be performed in the game, but can in the show.
