Merchant Prince II is a 2001 turn-based strategy game of economic, political, and military conquest. The game is developed by Holistic Design and published by Take-Two Interactive under the TalonSoft label. It is the sequel to the 1994 video game Merchant Prince.
Released six years after the original, Merchant Prince II offers another opportunity to conquer the world through negotiation and strategy. Gameplay takes place during the Renaissance era, where trade, diplomacy, and politics dominate. Conquest and exploration are key elements to empire expansion for the central homeport of Venice.
Your task is to be the first to earn one million florins, becoming the consummate Merchant Prince. Turning a profit requires mastery of many facets of 14th-17th century European commerce. You'll need to hire mercenaries, destroy reputations, bribe officials, explore the Atlantic and surrounding world, and combat pirates. Defending and attacking cities, managing commodities, establishing trade routes, building famous Venetian landmarks, and even controlling the Vatican will play a part in your success.
Five campaigns Die Hanse, The Mediterranean, The Orient, Marco Polo, and Atlantis take you to Europe, Asia, and Africa. Throughout the 400-year period, innovations must be achieved through researching mercenaries, ships, land, as well as health and science. Merchant Prince II includes multiplayer support in either turn-based or simultaneous mode and a play-by-e-mail option.
