In 1996, an edition of The Need for Speed, The Need for Speed: Special Edition, was released only on PC CD-ROM, containing MS-DOS and Windows 95 versions. It includes two new tracks (“Transtropolis” and “Burnt Sienna”) and various enhancements to the game engine.

    yeah, also no luck getting this to work on a 64-bit Windows 10 😡 running the nfs.exe just shows a system incompatibility error, running through DOSBox just terminates the program immediately… more detailed instructions would be appreciated!
