About Arthur’s Camping Adventure

Arthur's Camping Adventure (aka Arthur's Wilderness Rescue) is about Arthur and Mr. Ratburn's class taking a field trip to Mount Rockslide to explore the wilderness. It should have been all fine and dandy, but Mr. Ratburn ends up twisting his ankle on arrival at the campsite. It's now up to Arthur and his friend Buster to get some help, as you choose from three different ways of getting rescue to arrive.

By using the mouse, you navigate around the campgrounds to find items that you need, certain items will need to be collected like getting a bag of food by finding another item that can be used to retrieve it. Most of the time will be pointing and clicking for items and using some of them by taking them out of the backpack. There's even an extra challenge of photographing wildlife during the game session (this can vary, mammals one time and flowers the next).

Climb the mountain, explore nature, and learn about wildlife with Arthur and Mr. Ratburn.

Search for 40 fun natural surprises as you see nature up close.

Help Mr. Ratburn off the mountain by building 3 different rescue devices.

Keep a scrapbook of your adventure with printable mammals, birds, insects, and flowers.

Ages 3 - 7.

I used to play this game religiously before I was able to actually read. I was thinking about it the other day and I wasn’t even aware that it was considered at risk of being lost media ever. I’m glad someone donated the game files.

So the game does work, however, there is an issue at the very end, where the rock climbing section lags severely on modern computers making it impossible. My fix was to use DXWND (free program) and give it some compatibility settings. You may need to mess around with it further, but here’s what I’ve changed and it appears to work for me:

    Main:
    ✔ Early hook
    ✔ No banner*
    ✔ Run in Window*
    ✔ Terminate on window close*
    ✔ Force windowing*
    ✔ Lower background priority
    ✔ Keep Aspect ratio*
    Video:
    ✔ Prevent Win Maximize*
    Screen resolution (HD (16:9)*
Compat. (you may need to enable advanced settings for this):
✔ Pretend Win visible & on top
    ✔ Win insulation
    ✔ Handle Exceptions
    ✔ Set NOPs
    ✔ Fake Version (Windows 98/SE)

You may need to mess around with it more, but I’m running it on a modern laptop on Windows 10 and it is running perfectly fine at 60 FPS.
    * This likely didn’t have any effect on it. I also was trying to get around the game maximizing itself into full screen. It’s very intolerant of even minimization, due to it being nearly 25 years old

The link to this game seems to be dead, which is a pity because I was looking forward to reliving some childhood nostalgia.
