   Hey there,
   I managed to set everything up and the game also worked perfectly. At least for maybe an hour or so. However, when I exited the game, and later tried to restart it, I’m getting an error message, that the game can’t be run, since my computer won’t support the required “color depth”.
   This really confuses me, since the game was running properly before. I tried to manually change the color depth in my settings, but the error message still comes up.
   Also, my Computer isn’t set up in English, so I can’t really put the exact error message in here. But directly translated, the error message says:

   “Grave Error!

   Game Start not possible because:
   The standard graphic card does not support this color depth. Terminated now.”

   Even running it in compatibility mode doesn’t help, I keep getting the same error.

   Can’t use Start.exe or any of the Setup files, Installwizard just fails and Start.exe does nothing other than being in the task list.

   Only way I managed to make this work was with a VM, I used Oracle VM with Windows XP SP3.
   The issue here is that I can’t patch its resolution and audio stutters often.
   I have tried the widescreen patcher(both legacy and normal) and its different wrappers, I also tried the old route by changing the hex values, both results in “green looking” launch screen and then crashes at the end.

   But, if you can deal with the resolution and some audio glitches just to be able to play Sims 1 again,
   I highly suggest trying out VM route.

     Idk if you ever figured it out, but if anyone else is having this issue: You want to paste it into the Program Files/Maxis/The Sims file on your computer, NOT the mounted emulated CD.

   i got the game working but theres no sound. found some dude via google who seemed to know what was the issue but he was so complicated i couldnt figure out how to fix it. anyone else have any idea whats wrong and how i can fix it, in simple mans terms. thanks!

     I face the some problem. You need to mount the cd rom everytime you want to play, it somehow bring the sound back

     If that pop-up occurs, then try clicking the NoCD folder. Then a no CD version will pop up

   I used the file off of mega and when I try to paste SIMS.EXE like the instructions say… it says there isn’t enough space? has anyone found a solution for this? I must be doing something wrong.

    Not working for me! I have seen that others also experienced this issue with no solution in this thread..
    I tried to run setup.exe a few times with no success (after mounting ISO). I can see that the setup.exe is active in the task manager but nothing is happening. Running as admin and using the compatibility troubleshooting wonät help.. Running on Windows 10.

      Had the same issue. Apparently my wallpaper engine was the problem. Try going into task manager, go to the ‘Details’ tab and find Setup.exe. Right-click and select ‘Analyze wait chain.’ Should show what process it’s waiting for. You should be able to select whatever it is and end it.

    My created sims won’t move into their house? I make a sim then buy a blank lot, then they disappear and I have zero funds when the lot loads in. The Sim straight up doesn’t exist in the lot.

    Edit: Solved the issue! Run it as an administrator and that should work.

    The game is running great, thank you. I would also like using “the Sims Creator” but it ask for CD is there a solution?

    finally got the game installed.. can play ok however when creating a new family and trying to move them in, i get to the house and it doesn’t move my new sims in. and also shows $0. But will work if i use one of the preloaded families. Also having saving issues.. won’t let me save anything. Won’t let me enter $ cheat either. Anyone else having issues? on windows 10.
